Álex Díaz promosso alla Caja Rural-Seguros RGA dal team di sviluppo

La squadra Caja Rural-Seguros RGA per la prossima stagione continua a prendere forma. Oltre agli annunci degli ultimi giorni, Álex Díaz (2001) di Guipuzcoa si unisce al team con un contratto di due anni, diventando così il quinto acquisto fino ad oggi, in una nuova dimostrazione dell’impegno verso il settore giovanile della struttura diretta da Juan Manuel Hernández.

Tra Díaz e Javier Ibáñez – annunciato alcune settimane fa – ci sono già 133 corridori che hanno avuto l’opportunità di fare il salto con Caja Rural-Seguros RGA. Infatti, entrambi hanno avuto la possibilità di iniziare a mostrare tutto il loro potenziale quest’anno come stagisti.

La stagione del ciclista basco lo ha collocato come un assoluto punto di riferimento nel peloton nazionale elite/U23, essendo uno dei corridori più solidi nella categoria. Le sue sei vittorie fino ad oggi – con le vittorie generali nella Vuelta a Navarra e nella Vuelta a Ávila come traguardi da evidenziare – insieme a più di venti piazzamenti nei top-10, rendono Álex sinonimo di efficienza e regolarità.

INTERVISTA CON ÁLEX DÍAZ

Cosa significa per te questo salto?

Per me, fare il salto ai ranghi professionistici è molto bello, poiché rappresenta la ricompensa per il duro lavoro che ho svolto negli ultimi anni. Quando sono passato dai juniores agli amatori, era impensabile poter fare questo passo, ma poco a poco sono migliorato grazie al lavoro quotidiano.

Qual è la tua valutazione della stagione fino ad ora?

Ho una valutazione molto positiva di questa stagione, poiché sono passato da non aver mai vinto a conquistarne sei in un’unica stagione. Vincere al mio debutto con la squadra mi ha dato molta fiducia e, anche se la seconda vittoria ha impiegato un po’ a venire, sapevo che sarebbe arrivata. Oltre alle vittorie, sono molto felice perché dall’inizio della stagione fino ad ora sono stato molto costante, ottenendo buoni piazzamenti ogni settimana.

Come ti descriveresti come ciclista per chi non ti conosce?

Mi considero un ciclista piuttosto completo, che si distingue soprattutto in montagna e negli arrivi in salita brevi, anche se posso fare bene anche su percorsi pianeggianti.

Quale ruolo ha svolto il team di sviluppo per te e quanto è importante per te raggiungere il livello professionale?

È stato fondamentale. Fin dall’inizio mi hanno dato molta fiducia e un calendario molto buono, con la Coppa di Spagna e praticamente tutte le corse a tappe. Tutto questo è stato molto importante per il mio progresso come ciclista, poiché correre in questi eventi nazionali ha aumentato il mio livello. I compagni di squadra e lo staff hanno collaborato molto bene, specialmente il gruppo che ha partecipato alla Coppa di Spagna, poiché abbiamo trascorso molto tempo insieme e poi questo si è riflesso nei risultati delle gare.

Quali sono i tuoi obiettivi per il resto della stagione e per il tuo prossimo anno da professionista?

Prima della fine della stagione, mi piacerebbe ottenere un’altra vittoria, così da poter dire addio a questa categoria, alla quale mi sono affezionato molto negli ultimi cinque anni. Per la prossima stagione, l’obiettivo principale è continuare a imparare nella categoria mentre miglioro le mie prestazioni e essere pronto ad aiutare la squadra in tutto ciò di cui hanno bisogno.

In addition to the announcements of the last few days, Álex Díaz (2001) from Guipuzcoa joins the team with a two-year contract – fifth incorporation to date – coming from the Caja Rural-Alea development team in a new demonstration of the commitment to the youth team of the structure directed by Juan Manuel Hernández.

With his move to the professional category, the green team continues its commitment to the development and promotion of the best young talent. His six victories to date – with the overall wins in the Vuelta a Navarra and the Vuelta a Ávila as milestones to highlight – together with more than twenty places in the top-10 make Álex a synonym of efficiency and regularity.

INTERVIEW WITH ÁLEX DÍAZ

What does this leap mean to you?

For me, making the leap to the professional ranks is very nice, as it is the reward for the hard work I have been doing over the last few years. When I went from juniors to amateurs it was unthinkable to be able to take this step, but little by little I have been improving thanks to the day-to-day work.

What is your assessment of the season so far?

I have a very good assessment of this season, as I have gone from never having won a victory to winning six in one season. Winning on my debut with the team gave me a lot of confidence and, although the second win took a while to come, I knew it was coming. Apart from the wins I’m very happy because from the start of the season until now I’ve been very consistent, getting good places every week.

How would you describe yourself as a cyclist for those who don’t know you?

I consider myself a pretty complete cyclist, standing out above all in the mountains and on short uphill finishes, although I can also do well on the flat.

What role has the development team played for you, and how important is it for you to be able to reach professional level?

It has been fundamental. From the beginning they gave me a lot of confidence and a very good calendar, with the Spanish Cup and practically all the stage tours. All this has been very important for my progress as a cyclist, as racing these national events has increased my level as a cyclist. The teammates and staff have complemented each other very well, especially the group that has done the Spanish Cup, as we have spent a lot of time together and then that has been reflected with results in the races.

Which are your goals for the rest of the season and for your next pro year?

Before the end of the season I would like to get one more victory, so that I can say goodbye to this category, which I have grown very fond of over the last five years. For next season the main objective is to continue learning the category as I improve my performance and to be ready to help the team in whatever they need.
